School History

Altama Elementary School opened on February 1, 1965 and has been an integral part of the community ever since. Altama was built to meet the needs of its community, undergoing a population change through an increase in personnel at the Glynco Naval Air Station. (NAS Glynco) NAS Glynco was approximately 1 1/2 miles from the school's location.
Altama's school mascot is the Bald Eagle, which represents strength and integrity. Altama's school colors are red and white, which our students and staff wear proudly!
