School History
Altama Elementary School opened on February 1, 1965 and has been an integral part of the community ever since. Altama was built to meet the needs of its community, undergoing a population change through an increase in personnel at the Glynco Naval Air Station. (NAS Glynco) NAS Glynco was approximately 1 1/2 miles from the school's location.
